If you follow a channel or user on YouTube regularly you may have
thought about downloading some of those videos. This can be interesting
if you prefer to watch the video on the television, do not have an
Internet connection available all the time, or simply prefer to have
them on your computer to watch them multiple times without having to
spend bandwidth doing so every time you do that.
The following tutorial describes how you can download YouTube videos from users, playlists or subscriptions automatically. The programs that you need for that are RSS Handler and Miro. You can however replace Miro with another program that can download media (podcast style) automatically. This includes Apple iTunes for instance. If you do not mind a manual solution, you can integrate the feed into your RSS feed reader to download the videos automatically.
Here you can make the following selections:
You find the feed listed under Podcasts in the Miro sidebar afterwards. A click opens the last available videos. If you want to auto download, you need to click on the setting of the same name in the interface there to do so. You can alternatively select to only download new items, or none at all. If you select the latter option, it is up to you to start downloads manually.
Please note that the downloading will only work if the RSS Handler program is running in the background.

You can however replace Miro with another program that can download media (podcast style) automatically. This includes Apple iTunes for instance. 1. RSS Handler
This is a Java application, which means that you need to have Java installed on your computer to use it. This may be a severe limitation for some users, and we will provide you with an alternative at the end of the tutorial. You load the interface of the program with a click on start.bat.Here you can make the following selections:
- Select the type of YouTube video feed that you want to create: User, Playlist, Favorites, Subscriptions or Standard
- Pick the desired video format and resolution
- Select whether you want the latest 25 or 50 items to become available
- Pick the order of videos: Published, Position, Relevance or View count
- Remove additional contents: description or title
2. Miro
Now that we have created the feed, we simply need to integrate it into Miro. Miro comes with built-in options to download YouTube videos. We are however automating the process. You need to click on Sidebar > Add Podcast, and enter the RSS feed url that you have created in RSS Handler into the form there.
3. Without RSS Handler
If you do not have Java installed on your system, or prefer not to run RSS Handler in the background whenever you want to download videos from YouTube, you can use a YouTube API url to add user related contents to Miro.Source: http://www.ghacks.net/2012/07/05/automate-youtube-video-downloading-with-rss-handler/
